Cafe Brewing Italiana, JM Road, Pune: About
Brewing Italiana is a cafe located in a quiet lane off JM Road. They serve vegetarian Italian food along with cafe staples like sandwiches, fries and fusion appetizers.
Decor:
The cafe is tucked away in a quiet and lush lane off JM Road and is housed on the ground floor of Hotel Bhooshan. Seating is comfortable with cushioned chairs and wooden tables inlaid with quirky ceramic tiles. Matching the surrounding lush greenery, the space is dotted with potted plants of different sizes. Different sections of the cafe offer privacy, making it a great place to work from. Besides that, it’s also a great place to hang out with friends or a meal with family.
Food:
It is great to see a vegetarian menu that goes beyond paneer and mushroom and features millets and a range of other vegetables. We started with the wholesome and hearty roasted pumpkin soup. Pumpkin puree cooked with coconut milk and topped with basil and pepper. We tried the chilli bean soft shell tacos next and they were slightly disappointing. The bean filling was tasty, but the taco shells were undercooked. The confit tomato and feta crostinis more than made up for the disappointment. Confited cherry tomatoes, feta cheese and basil generously topped on a crusty baguette and drizzled with balsamic reduction and garnished with toasted pumpkin seeds. This was fresh and very flavourful. Another cracker dish was the chipotle broccolini florets. Crispy, crumb-fried broccolini florets, dusted with a spicy house-spice mix and served with a cooling yoghurt dip. The innovative jowar millet falafel chat had crunchy falafels made with jowar.
These were topped with the usual chaat staples. Dahi, fried papad, spiced peanuts and mint and tamarind chutneys.
This was a flavour explosion. Raw onions would have tasted great. You can’t go wrong with a cheese chilly corn sandwich. It was quite tasty. It was grilled perfectly and served with baked chips and a mayo dip. For mains, we tried the creamy mushroom pasta. We picked the pink sauce which was delicious. The mushrooms were generously added and it was served with garlic bread. The two desserts we tried were the highlight of our meal. The biscoff cheesecake had layers of biscoff mousse, cookie crumble and a gooey, sweet and salty caramel sauce. But my personal favourite was the dark chocolate skillet cookie. Freshly baked chocolate cookie served in a hot skillet generously topped with a salted caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream.
Plus & Minus: Cafe Brewing Italiana
The menu and the food at Cafe Brewing Italiana impresses. Barring the tacos, everything else we tried was delicious. We missed out on trying the thin-crust pizzas and a lot of other dishes on the menu. They also offer affordable combo meals for groups which are value for money. The staff was friendly and the service was prompt.
