Welcomcafe Ikkat, Ashram Road, Ahmedabad: Decor

Keeping with the name Ikkat, this restaurant has ikkat patterns as its signature motif seen on the upholstery of most of the dining chairs. The hotel has cleverly used Gujarat’s crafts and industrial products in its décor like Morbi tiles, embroidery and the design of the restaurant’s ceiling that evokes Ahmedabad’s famous latticework. The restaurant is bright, well-lit and cheerful with a colourful walled kitchen area behind the buffet counters.

Welcomcafe Ikkat: Food

This restaurant has a multi-cuisine menu. We started with the Quinoa Salad topped with burrata cheese and mixed with vegetables, Herb-crusted Bhetki Ball which was subtly spiced to not overpower the fish and Beetroot Kebab, which was a moist and robust patty.

The Tandoori Sarson Jhinga was excellent – juicy and tender prawns with the distinct taste of mustard blended into the tandoori masala. Another must-have starter is Memoni Ghost Chapli, small patties of minced meat which were aromatic, moist, tender and well-spiced. The Lamb Chops were elegantly presently, neatly plated, with a shining glaze on them, chopped vegetables, edible flowers and the herbs lending colour to the plate.

Another star of the menu is Dal Makhani, which is rich and creamy. The Biryani was also excellent, not overly spiced and the mutton was also tender. It came with a nice salan.

For dessert, we decided to have the soft and smooth Angoori Kheer Kadam.

Plus & Minus:

This restaurant is recommended for its Indian and Western dishes. It excels in seafood like fish and prawn dishes as also in kebabs and dal.
