Double Roti, Anna Nagar East, Chennai: About

Relocated from Shanti Colony to their current space, Double Roti is large, whit walled, with brass lamp shades. Its table bases are different. They give the impression of being old sewing machine bases, but are not. The al fresco section becomes very pretty in the evenings when the fairy lights come on and a soft breeze ripples through the city.

Double Roti: Food

The Mushroom Filo Pockets are delicately flaky on the outside, hot with minced mushroom, rosemary and garlic butter. Served with cheese sauce dip, the Jalapeno and Cigars are sour, spicy and obviously cheesy. If you’re vegetarian or would like to try some veg food, the Cheese Tortellini With Pumpkin Emulsion arranged in a thick orange pumpkin sauce has fibre and the combination made in heaven – cheese and garlic. Pumpkin seeds are sprinkled on top. It is quite filling and a complete meal by itself. It comes with a slice of garlic toast. For the non-vegetarians, the small morsels of Whole Prawn In Butter Garlic Sauce is the one. Strong flavours of garlic complement the subtle, yet unmissable taste and texture of butter. Spongy soft, the cake has absorbed the milk right in, topped with a lovely sauce, but you may find the sugar ratio a bit on the higher side, to be frank.
