Boteco charms instantly with its decor. This recent arrival in Bengaluru is set up to capture the colour and vibrancy of Brazil, starting from the mural that makes up its façade. Inside, there’s wall art reflecting Brazilian life and lush foliage brings the outdoors in. Attractive ceramic tile patterns brighten the floor. This, then, is the perfect spot to sip on a Cachaca cocktail such as the Summer Punch – of Cachaca rum, sugarcane juice, lime and pickle brine – and unwind. There’s a compact wine list as well. I’d heard much about the Pao de Queijo, the signature cheese bread here. It’s made with tapioca flour and Gouda cheese and makes for a more-ish appetizer with drinks.

Food:

I had the one with Pork Sausage (₹605). The meat was juicy, flavoursome and the bread had a lovely airiness to it. Next, I ordered the Bolinho de Aipim (₹385). The tongue-twister name aside, this was deep fried croquettes of cheese and tapioca. The dish was disappointing with an unpleasant sourness to it. I couldn’t eat most of it. In a gesture that I appreciated, the staff took the item off my bill.
This was an off note in an otherwise satisfying meal, the best part of it being the Tenderloin (₹
825) from the Churrasqueira, the charcoal grill. The meat, unadorned, as it should be with a good ingredient, was perfectly cooked and came with an extravagant assortment of condiments and sides. There were tapioca chips, marinated pineapple chunks, salsa, mustard and flavoured butters. So, every bite of meat could taste different. If you don’t want to eat all that meat, there are dishes such as the Paella Brasileira, a take on the Spanish classic and Pesto Crusted Salmon. There are options for vegetarians like the Risotto de Tomate and Beetroot Gnocchi.
For dessert, I had the Quindim (385). It was a baked custard with fresh coconut in it. I’m partial to sweets with coconut in them and this was an utterly delightful ending to the meal for me.
