The Brew Estate: Chandigarh Industrial Area, Chandigarh

Chandigarh’s first microbrewery has swelled to a chain in the years following its 2016 launch of the flagship brewpub (as the brand calls them) in Sector 26. There are four across the Tricity now, and several other outlets dot the region, including one each in Patiala, Ludhiana and Shimla. Of the craft beers, their Home Run, Indian Pale Ale and Brew Estate No. 1 are vastly popular, and come in measures of mugs, pitchers and towers. In keeping with their concept– Café by Day, Pub by Night–The Brew Estate offer an array of options in multiple cuisines; notably North Indian, Asian and European.

The Brew Estate: Chandigarh Industrial Area, Chandigarh: Food

A family outing brought me here last month, and our order that evening, along with the aforementioned brews, the odd whisky sour, and lime soda, looked somewhat like this: kebab platter, BBQ chicken wings, stuffed mushroom caps, dal makhani, tandoori chicken, butter naan, khao suey and Thai green curry. The banoffee pie jar and hot chocolate brownie were picked for dessert.

Plus & Minus:

We found the food by and large well-made and pleasingly presented in an unexceptional sort of way. The mushroom caps were a mix-up order we decided to keep anyways; good thing they turned out delicious! The khao suey was excellent. I can’t say the same for the Thai curry, an entirely forgettable dish. Of the desserts, the stale, dry banoffee could have been avoided but the sizzling brownie with ice cream was tasty enough for the evening to end on a sweet note. Our first round of beers was not cold enough but the server helpfully fixed that for our seconds when it was pointed out. I found the staff courteous and willing to assist, although some professional training wouldn’t hurt. The Brew Estate may also want to consider a better exhaust and a good scrub.
