Grand Mercure is located with the towers of the GIFT City on either side. A driveway leads past rows of palms to the portico. As you enter through the revolving door, you come to the lobby which is very much in keeping with the brand image of blending the contemporary with local touches – note the traditional swing in the lobby and the mandalas on the walls. The restaurant is located at the lobby level, directly accessible from the reception area with no walls or barriers separating it from the lobby lounge. The central area of Sangam is the buffet set on two sides with separate vegetarian and non-vegetarian areas.

We opted to dine a la carte. We started with the minestrone soup, which was thick and well-filled with vegetables and pasta. The roasted tomato and red pepper soup with basil oil is a robust and flavorful soup. The sprout salad is a fusion of Indian and western flavours with a touch of orange. For starters, the butter smoked prawns were very well-grilled with subtle flavours. For the main course, we ordered the baked ravoili which was excellent with thin pasta dough enveloping the vegetables, and the flavours of thyme oil and paprika. The smoked chicken pizza was also perfectly done with a crunchy crust and flavorful toppings. The poached fish came with fennel and orange segments. Sweets are their forte – ask for their day’s specials. We enjoyed the gulab jamun, sandesh, malai cham cham and rasgulla. They also have a thali.
Plus & Minus:
As Sangam is largely a buffet-centric restaurant, it is a good idea to place orders early if you opt for the a la carte menu. The staff usually caters to special requests.
