PunChin, Phase 3, Mohali: Decor

Located in the basement at Cama Hotel, PunChin is a restaurant I’m happy to occasionally dine in,especially when in the neighborhood. The place borrows its name from the two cuisines it specializes in – Punjabi and Chinese. Both of which I have alternated between, and relished, on my visits over the past several years. Each time, the service team has been both polite and professional. PunChin’s Paneer Bhurji, Murgh Burani, Rogan Josh and Dal Tadka are mention worthy. Not least, the Garlic Naan for those who, like me, have a weakness for things garlicky. For the adventurous palate, the Mozzarella Oregano Kulcha stands out. Although, and should I be asked to pick one, I’d probably lean a little towards their Chinese offerings.

PunChin, Phase 3, Mohali: Food

And that’s how a mix of Thai and Chinese dishes became the order of the day while visiting friends in Mohali recently. My previous preferences here have included Crispy Corn Kernel,Stir Fried Chinese Greens with Chilli & Crushed Garlic, and the gingery Diced Chicken Hong Kong Style. This time,we went for Crispy Fish in Garlic Sauce and the Thai Paneer Tikka (a restaurant specialty) for starters. As mains we zeroed in on Thai Green Curry (veg), Steamed Rice, Hakka Noodles (veg), Schwzwan Fried Rice (egg), and teamed it with Steamed Chicken Chilli Coriander. We called for it to be home delivered.

Plus & Minus:

Our food, packed in standard foil containers and spill-proof plastic tubs, was delivered warm and in good time. The fish was flavorful and tasty even though it had lost its crisp by the time it reached us. The paneer tikka, a delicious melt in your mouth experience, was prepared shashlik – like but lacked the promised Thai flavours that would have defined it as a PunChin blend, as claimed on the menu. The steamed chicken was a tad bland though it paired well with both the noodles and fried rice. My favourite part of the meal was the green curry; it stood out for the generous amount of veggies and a restrained use of lemongrass and kaffir lime.
