Red Rhino, Whitefield, Bangalore: About
The microbreweries that have come up in recent times have all been whopping big spaces, taken with being the largest, having the longest bars and other superlatives. I tend to feel a little lost in these arena-like settings. Red Rhino in Whitefield, meanwhile, has a definite coziness about it. The use of wood and old-style leather banquettes create a welcoming ambience here. I particularly like the al fresco deck affording views of Whitefield.
Bangalore Daze is the IPA brewed in-house. It has a pronounced crispness from the citrus hops combining with pale ale malls. The Red Rhino Belgian Wit has the spice notes of coriander and you’ll enjoy its bready flavour. When I’m in the mood for a dark beer, I like the Black Pearl, a stout that has a tinge of sweetness and complexity from chocolate, caramel and coffee flavours.
You can also eat very well at Red Rhino, ordering from a menu that goes beyond nachos and loaded fries. If you want something light and flavorful, there is the Get Sum Dim Sum, filled with a choice of water chestnuts and veggies, chicken or prawn. Asian flavours also come in the form of Peanut Butter Tofu and Hunan Style Chicken. The Prawn a la Plancha, served with garlic bread to mop up the shrimp-flavored olive oil is another popular order here. The Kebab Platter is a good choice for large groups.
Other appetizers and small plates I would recommend here are the Red Rhino Chilli Chicken – it pairs nicely with a strong beer – the Tawa Masala Fish, done rustic style, and the Moroccan Style Cottage Cheese Skewers for vegetarians.
The main course choices also cover the gamut from good old desi favorites to Italian dishes and a selection of Asian bowls and platters. Try the Spaghetti aglio, olio e peperoncino with mushrooms. They also serve quite nice risotto here. If you are idea of a perfect beer session is only complete with pizza, then Red Rhino’s Pizza Verde, with basil pesto, broccoli and mixed greens, and the Italian Pepperoni Pizza will certainly hit the spot.
